Time machine is the built-in backup feature of your mac. to use it, you need an external storage device, sold separately: an external usb, thunderbolt, or firewire drive connected to your mac. My brother lives with me. he just has an iphone 6, no pc/laptop, and i do not believe he uses itunes either. i have an apple time capsule. can my brother somehow backup his iphone 6 directly to my apple time capsule bypassing itunes and not using a pc/laptop?. An airport base station (airport extreme, airport express, or airport time capsule) or other internet router that supports upnp or nat-pmp, with the latest available firmware. if you aren't already signed in to icloud, enter the apple id you use with icloud and click sign in..
If the base icloud service is on apple data center, but you can keep a cache locally on time capsule, you'd get local + local backup + offsite backup, which is pretty much the magic formula. that would be a very interesting service.. If you created a link to a folder on your icloud drive in /volumes/ it should show up as a disk to back up to, and if you excluded backing up icloud drive through time machine it wouldn't double in size every backup. your hard drive would fill up very very quickly though, and your performance would suffer.. Backup you ios devices to itunes, then everything is backup by time machine to your time capsule. better, backup your ios devices to icloud. answered by frederic l.
